Surprise at the Gas Pump: Pulaski County Lottery Player Wins $50,000

Little Rock, Ark.

For one Arkansas resident, a routine gas stop turned into the moment that landed him his biggest lottery win to date.

J. Jones of Pulaski County won $50,000 playing $50,000 Frenzy, a $20 instant game. He claimed his prize at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL) Claim Center on June 25.

The winning ticket was sold at Murphy USA #7928, located at 403 Bryant Ave. in Bryant.

“I was just bored!” Jones told lottery officials. “I hadn’t bought any tickets in a while and wanted to try.”

Near the lottery bin, the retailer displayed a list of remaining prizes for scratch-offs and the jackpot amounts for upcoming drawings. Jones, realizing that $50,000 Frenzy still had several top prizes available, decided to take a chance on the loaded ticket.

“The crazy thing is, I only bought one ticket of that kind that day,” Jones said. He had also purchased a few $5 tickets, but the $20 game was a standalone.

Lucky for Jones, that one ticket is all it took to win big.

The Pulaski County man scratched off the bottom of the instant game in his car, then returned to the store to scan it. He was soon greeted with a message telling him to visit the ASL Claim Center.

“What does that mean?” the player asked, confused.

“It means you have to claim your prize downtown!” the clerk responded.

Ecstatic, Jones realized he had landed a $50,000 top prize.

So far, Jones hasn't told anyone else the good news. He plans to save his winnings.

Forty-five top prizes worth $50,000 each remain on $50,000 Frenzy.
