Little Rock Man Wins $1 Million Powerball Prize

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.

A Little Rock man recently won a $1 million lottery prize playing Powerball®. The winner, who elected to remain anonymous, claimed his prize at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center on Feb. 2.

The winning ticket was sold at Kroger 644 on 1900 N. Polk in Little Rock for the Jan. 6 drawing. The winning numbers were 4, 31, 34, 38 and 61, with the Powerball number being 13. The multiplier was two.

The Little Rock resident purchased the winning ticket while running errands at his local Kroger. He is an avid lottery player, sometimes buying two or three tickets per day from different retailers. He did not realize he owned a winning ticket until he called his girlfriend to check his numbers.

“I thought, ‘Oh! I won something!” he shared with lottery officials.

The computer had selected five out of six winning digits for him, missing only his lucky number: 13. The man typically includes it when choosing his own numbers.

“He would’ve gotten the jackpot!” his girlfriend shared.

The winner was not upset over the narrow miss, though, celebrating his $1 million win in the claim center.

“Have you ever heard of Kool and the Gang? ‘There’s a party going on right here,’” he sang.

This prize is by far the winner’s biggest; previously, he had only won the occasional $200 prize from scratch-offs.

The winner has yet to share the good news with anyone other than his girlfriend and does not intend to do so. Instead, he simply hopes to buy a new home with his prize. The couple are dog enthusiasts, and these pets are not allowed in their current apartment.

Following this win, the overall Powerball jackpot is still available. It rises to $228 million for the Wednesday night drawing.
