Arkansas Scholarship Lottery’s Sharon Strong Named Chair of Mega Millions Product Group
Lottery directors from across the country elected Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL) Executive Director Sharon Strong to be the incoming Chair of the Multi State Lottery Association’s (MUSL) Mega Millions® Product Group.
“Lotteries are the only subsect of the gaming industry that provide funds for public beneficiaries. Draw games like Mega Millions comprise a large percentage of the proceeds that lotteries raise nationwide for worthy causes, such as education, veteran’s programs and outdoor conservation. In turn, Mega Millions revenue directly supports thousands of Arkansas students as they pursue their education and workforce training goals,” Strong said.
ASL is a member of the Multi State Lottery Association, which works with the Mega Millions Consortium to cross-sell the Mega Millions game in various jurisdictions. Recently, California Lottery Director, Harjinder Shergill-Chima was named Lead Director for the Consortium.
"I am so excited about the opportunity to collaborate with my friend and colleague, Harj, and I am honored that my colleagues in MUSL feel confident in my ability to succeed in this role. Combining our strengths will give us a powerful opportunity to shape the future of Mega Millions and maximize the game’s national success,” Strong added. She will serve in this role until July 2027.
Mega Millions is a multi-state draw game, which operates in 45 states, District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Within the last decade, the game has generated seven jackpots worth more than $1 billion each. Tickets cost $5 per play, and each ticket includes a multiplier that increases non-jackpot winnings by 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10 times.
In Arkansas, proceeds from the sale of lottery tickets like Mega Millions contribute to three on-going scholarship programs: the Arkansas Academic Challenge, the Arkansas Workforce Challenge and ACCESS to Acceleration.
Since its launch in 2009, ASL has returned over $1.6 billion in proceeds for more than 873,000 scholarships.
