White County Woman Wins Big Playing Instant Game; El Dorado Man Wins $100,000 Powerball Prize
Whether they prefer instant tickets or draw games, Arkansans won big with lottery games this week.
Sara R. of White County won $350,000 playing $350,000 Payout, a $20 instant ticket that launched earlier this month. She claimed her prize at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL) Claim Center on Aug. 24.
The winning ticket was sold at Doublebees #139, 6027 Highway 36 W., in Rose Bud.
Sara, a weekly lottery player, had not planned to buy tickets that day, but she decided to visit the retailer on a whim.
“Hey, why not?” she thought.
Drawn to the $350,000 Payout instant game, Sara purchased a ticket and waited until she returned home to scratch it off. To her surprise, the second row held a $350,000 top prize.
“I had to look at it about five or six times,” Sara told lottery officials. “I thought it couldn’t be true.”
Even with the ticket in hand, the lucky winner had to check with her daughter before she could accept the good news.
“Is this real?” she asked.
Sara won the first top prize on $350,000 Payout, and she plans to save some of her winnings for her grandkids. Two $350,000 top prizes remain, as well as more than $24 million in total cash prizes.
Another winner, Seth S. from El Dorado, won $100,000 in the Aug. 12 Powerball® drawing. He claimed his prize on Aug. 24. The winning numbers were 4, 26, 66, 67 and 69, and the Powerball number was 9. The Power Play® multiplier was 2.
Seth ordered the winning Quick Pick ticket via the Jackpocket mobile app after the Powerball jackpot reached $1 billion.
“I had a couple of extra dollars and wanted to give it a try,” he told lottery officials.
To Seth’s slight chagrin, another player hit the jackpot that night. He never anticipated that the following morning he would receive a call from a Jackpocket representative informing him of his own big win.
He had matched four out of the five winning numbers, earning a $50,000 prize. Because he purchased his ticket with the optional Power Play for an additional $1, his winnings doubled to $100,000.
“I sat there in shock for about an hour, and it didn’t really sink in until later,” Seth told lottery officials. “That’s life-changing money.”
Seth first shared the good news with his parents, who needed some convincing—and a screenshot of the winning ticket—before they believed him. He plans to take a vacation and invest his winnings in a retirement fund.
The Powerball jackpot is $96 million for tonight’s drawing.
