Small Town, Big Win: Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Celebrates Powerball Win with Murphy USA in Cabot
This month, the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL) hosted a community celebration at Murphy USA 7879 to commemorate the $1.817 billion Powerball® ticket sold in Cabot.
“We were excited to see the city of Cabot come together to celebrate this historic win,” said ASL Executive Director Sharon Strong. “The event was a great opportunity to support one of our retailers, Murphy USA 7879, and remember that big wins can happen anywhere, at any time—even in a small town.”
The retailer event featured games, a prize giveaway and a radio remote with KSSN 96. Murphy USA vendors, Coca-Cola and Monster Energy, provided samples to attendees. ASL Executive Director Sharon Strong, Murphy USA representative Garrett Jeans, Speaker of the House Brian Evans, Senator Ricky Hill and City of Cabot Council Member James Reid also shared remarks during the event.
As the second-highest U.S. lottery jackpot and the highest jackpot ever awarded in Arkansas, the $1.817 billion jackpot impacted more than just the lucky winner. Proceeds from Powerball ticket sales help fund student scholarships in Arkansas, while Murphy USA 7879 received a $50,000 commission for selling the winning ticket. Income taxes withheld from this jackpot also contributed an additional $32 million to state tax revenue.
“It’s always exciting to see the impact our work has on the community, whether that’s for players, retailers or the state as a whole,” Strong said.
