One good deed set off a chain of events that led to a big win for an Arkansas lottery player.

Sara Coon of Houston won $75,000 playing Jumbo Bucks Bingo, a $3 instant game. She claimed her prize at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL) Claim Center on Feb. 2.

Sara, a daily lottery player, purchased the winning ticket last Friday at Highway 10 One Stop, 23724 Highway 10 in Little Rock. She and her boyfriend were helping a friend remove their car from the snow before heading to an appointment. On the way, Sara decided to buy a lottery ticket at a nearby gas station.

“We wouldn’t have been there otherwise,” Sara told lottery officials.

Sara selected her favorite game, Jumbo Bucks Bingo, and scratched it off in the car while her boyfriend drove to their next destination.

At first, Sara thought she had only won $20. She shared the news with her boyfriend, who joked that it was about time she won big. Then she kept scratching.

“Babe, I need you to pull over,” she said.

To the couple’s shock, Sara’s ticket held a $75,000 top prize. She checked it twice, still in disbelief.

“I whipped the car around so we could go right back to the retailer and get the ticket scanned,” Sara’s boyfriend said.

Sure enough, Sara scanned her ticket and was instructed to collect her prize at the ASL Claim Center.

Ecstatic, the couple told lottery officials the prize will help them achieve several long-held dreams, including starting a business, buying a home and building a future for their daughter. The pair spent the weekend planning how to use their winnings wisely.

Sara’s boyfriend credited her for the surprise win.

“You’re the big winner, babe,” he told her. “I’m just holding the big winner’s hand.”
