Tontitown Man Wins $100,000 Playing $5 Instant Game

Little Rock, Ark.

One Arkansas player’s intuition led him to a big lottery win in the middle of an otherwise regular workday.

Thomas McCawley of Tontitown won $100,000 playing Fiery 5’s, a $5 instant game, and recently claimed his prize at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL) Claim Center.

The winning ticket was purchased at Tontitown Z-Mart Inc., 441 W. Henri De Tonti Blvd., in Tontitown.

McCawley was returning from his lunch break when he decided to stop by his favorite retailer for a ticket. The store is owned by a family friend, and every so often, McCawley finds himself drawn to the $5 instant games. This time, Fiery 5’s caught his attention.

“I just had a hunch,” McCawley told lottery officials. “I guess you could say it just spoke to me.”

McCawley had just clocked back into work when he started scratching his ticket. To his surprise, the very first row held a $100,000 top prize.

“This can’t be real,” he thought.

“It was really hard to go back to work after that,” McCawley laughed.

He first shared the good news with his wife and other family members, none of whom believed McCawley until he handed them the winning ticket.

The lucky winner plans to buy a wheelchair-accessible vehicle for his mother-in-law with his prize.

One $100,000 top prize remains on Fiery 5’s.

For players also interested in draw games, ASL continues its 5-Buck Bundle promotion. For only $5, players can receive a $3 Powerball® ticket with Power Play®, a $2 LOTTO ticket and a free Natural State Jackpot ticket. The promotion ends Feb. 28.

Arkansas lottery players must be at least 18 years old to purchase any lottery product.
