A local resident is celebrating a life-changing lottery win, proving that luck can strike anywhere, even in the smallest towns.

Robert C., of Mississippi County, won $200,000 on the $10 Psychedelic Payout scratch-off ticket. He claimed his prize at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center on Sept. 9.

Robert, who buys lottery tickets daily, was at home scratching his tickets when he realized his good fortune.

“I thought I only won $20 at first and was excited to see more zeros following the initial 20,” he said, recalling his first reaction of disbelief and excitement.

He bought the winning ticket at K & M Food Mart in Bassett, a small town with a population of 200, which he found especially exciting.

“It was cool, a town so small, you wouldn’t think a big ticket would be there,” Robert said.

He has no preference for specific tickets, usually buying ones that cost $5–$20, and while he plays other draw games, he finds his luck is best with scratch-offs.

Robert is no stranger to winning, having previously won prizes ranging from $500 to $5,000, but this is his biggest win to date. On the same day of his big win, he purchased a few other tickets and won $80.

He shared the news with his son, Robert, by texting a picture of the winning ticket at 10 p.m.

“I thought it was fake at first, but I looked at what time it was and realized he’d only be sending me something that late if he really did win,” his son recalled.

Looking ahead, Robert plans to buy a new truck and save the remainder of his winnings. Despite his big win, he does not plan to stop playing the lottery.

“Oh yeah, for sure!” he said, with his son noting, “He’s very lucky when it comes to the scratch-off tickets.”
