Two Arkansans Land $50,000 Prizes Playing Scratch-Offs

Little Rock, Ark.

Two lucky Arkansas lottery players won their biggest prizes yet playing the same instant game.

Atkins resident S. Hughes won a $50,000 top prize playing $50,000 Frenzy, a $20 scratch-off ticket. He claimed his prize last week at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center.

The winning ticket was sold at Tobacco Town Atkins, located at 903 Church St. in Atkins.

Hughes’ big win was a fortunate twist in an otherwise difficult day. After one of his work vehicles broke down, the Atkins man had to purchase a new part for repairs. Using some of his remaining cash, he decided to buy two lottery tickets, one of which landed him a $30 prize.

Hughes, eager to try his luck again, used his new winnings to purchase a $50,000 Frenzy instant game. He scratched off his ticket at the store counter and, to his shock, realized he had won a $50,000 top prize.

“I about fell over,” Hughes told lottery officials. “I’m still having a hard time believing it.

The lucky winner first shared the good news with the cashier, then his equally incredulous wife. Too stunned to move, Hughes had asked the cashier to bring his wife inside. She rushed into the store, fearing that something had gone awry when she saw Hughes “doubled over.”

Of course, her worries were soon forgotten when she discovered Hughes’ big win.

“All I did was hand her the ticket,” he said.

With his winnings, Hughes plans to fix his truck and grow his business.

Another winner, Travis S. of Roland, also won $50,000 on $50,000 Frenzy. He purchased the winning ticket at Circle K, 10200 N. Rodney Parham Rd. in Little Rock, and claimed his prize last week.

“I just happened to have some cash on me,” Travis told lottery officials.

The Roland man bought the winning ticket while running errands. He only plays lottery games twice each month, but this time, Travis was drawn to the loaded instant ticket. He had won $40 and $100 prizes on the game before and thought he could continue his winning streak. However, the player admitted to lottery officials that he never expected to land a top prize.

Travis scratched off the winning ticket in his car, quickly discovering that he had won $50,000.

“That can’t be right,” Travis thought. “Do I need to take this somewhere and get it checked?”

After reviewing the instructions on the back of his ticket, Travis confirmed that he had indeed won the top prize. Ecstatic, he shared the good news with his father, who believed him immediately.

“Other people didn’t believe me quite as quickly,” Travis laughed.

The Roland man plans to save his winnings.

Forty top prizes worth $50,000 each remain on $50,000 Frenzy.
